What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent treatment which enhances, creates and mimics the look of a natural Brow. It is all about creating a bespoke look for your face shape, hair color and skin tone.
This is done by penetrating pigments into the epidermis layer of the skin using a sterile hand held tool with micro fine needles. It delicately scratches the surface of the skin to embed the chosen color mimicking fine natural hair strokes.
How is Microblading different to a Tattoo?
Microblading is only on the top layer of the skin whereas a tattoo works in a deeper layer. Microblading therefore is not a permanent treatment and will fade within 1-3 years. Also there is more control to manually create natural strokes. The needle used in manual microblading is 3 times thinner than the one used in a machine, allowing it to create very fine, crisp hair strokes that do not blur after healing. Also no electrical tool involved but merely a small pen like tool.
Who will carry out the treatment?
Your whole treatment will be carried out by our Aesthetic brow specialist Maena.
She is trained in the art of SPMU Microblading through a CPD accredited trainer and her gallery of portfolio is viewable on our Instagram as well as our website section.
She will carry out a thorough consultation, patch test and will guide you through the treatment from start to end, and is always here for any questions post treatment.
As this is a two part treatment you can be sure that she will carry out your top up session and the strokes and technique to each individual artist varies you will be receiving treatment from the same practitioner. So rest assured your first session & top up will have the same strokes.
How painful is the treatment?
This will be discussed during your consultation and you may or may not wish to have numbing throughout the procedure. The pain level is generally considered mild to none when topical anesthetics are used and without numbing agents similar to that less of a tattoo and cat scratches.
How long is the process?
The process can take up to 3 hours or as quick as 90mins.
This all depends and varies on the look of the brows, the amount of strokes needed, the pain threshold and if and how long any numbing is required.
The actual needling only takes 15mins per brow. It is more the mapping and prep which takes up most the time.
How long does it take to heal? Is there any downtime?
The brows will be slightly red and may feel tender or sore. The pigment will also look quite dark and darken over the next few days as it heals and scabs over like a tattoo. Do not pick these and follow aftercare and ointment application and this should settle within a few days. There is no downtime and you can get back to normal activity after.
Maena will provide you with appropriate aftercare to undertake at home, to ensure the very best result.
In the following days the color will fade upto 40%. And will take 30 days to fully heal.
Is a top up needed?
Yes! The top up is vital as certain areas may not retain or hold the pigment and would need refining. Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils may lighten the pigment.
Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the color which will last at least a year.
This is carried out any time between 6-8 weeks. This allows the brows enough time to heal and return to its natural state ready to be refined.
How long does it last?
Because the pigments are not embedded deep into the dermal layers they will fade over time.
It typically last 1-2 years depending on your skin type, age factors, as well as medications and other factors.
Correct skincare routine helps maintain the pigment to last and the brows looking fresh.
Top up sessions between 12-18 months are recommended in order to avoid having a full reshape when it has all faded.
The microblading area may fade completely or leave a slight shadow residue.
Is it suitable for everyone?
There are certain restrictions which make it unsafe for certain clients and prohibit the treatment, they are listed below.

What is the process of Microblading?
1- Numbing stage – A topical an aesthetic is applied. This takes up to 60mins using a topical ointment. Whilst this is settling on the brows your consultation and pigment choice shall be recapped along with the look you are after. 2- The face and brows will be mapped to create the look you are after, analyzing your face shape, symmetry, by measuring and ensuring they are equal and suited to your face. Any hairs outside of this working area is tidied up. 3- The numbing cream is then removed and the pigmenting process can begin. 4- Smooth and swift featherweight strokes are created into the skin using the hand tool dipped in pigment to create hair lines. One brow is etched and left to absorb the ink, then the other brow is worked on. (approx 15min per brow) 5- The pigment is sealed on the brows and left to retain for a further 5minutes and then given a light wash to remove residue. 6- Aftercare is discussed and a healing ointment is given for you to apply. This is vital for the pigment to retain and last. Over the next few days the brows will darken, change color, may fade or become flaky. Have a look at the image on the sidebar. This is completely normal. And it takes around 30 days for it to settle and reveal its final color. 7- In 6-8 weeks you would need a top up session, where the healed brows are re-analysed and further strokes can be added. Note: Patch test and consultation must be carried out prior to your treatment. Due to the nature of the detailing required we humbly request no guests to be brought into the procedure room to ensure a sterile environment. Therefore we kindly request that you arrive unaccompanied to your appointment. We are happy to have them at the initial consultation but not for the treatment itself. |
